Since the early days of the Church general stores have played an important role in the economics of the Latter-day Saints. From Joseph Smith Sr's apple juice cart in Palmyra, NY to the Newel K. Whitney store in Kirtland, OH; the saints have always had a relationship with the merchandise business. Joseph Smith opened his own Red Brick store in Nauvoo, IL and Brigham Young launched Z.C.M.I. when they arrived in Salt Lake City. Each time the Saints moved, among their first efforts was to open a mercantile.

Today, Zions Mercantile embraces that pioneer spirit of good products and value. The Mercantile store in Nauvoo represents generations of Saints who worked hard to supply their own handmade goods and fresh foods.

Like many Mercantile Shops of the past, there are several hotel rooms above the store. These large family suites can accommodate groups and entire families. They are designed to take advantage of the views of the historic Nauvoo Temple. Each room has a unique historic theme from early Nauvoo.

With the spirit of good service and value as our goal Zions Mercantile offers not only a merchandise shop for gifts and baked goods, but also an experience like no other in family accommodations. Come visit Zions Mercantile and take a walk back in history.
